Raymond Louis Scherrer, 76, of Shawneetown, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2017, 5:50 p.m., at the Ridgway Rehab and Nursing Center in Ridgway. He was born in Harrisburg on February 22, 1940 to the late L. Bernard and Catherine Adell (Riley) Scherrer. Raymond married the former Delores Rider on December 26, 1966 and they had just celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Also he was an Army Veteran, member of the St. Kateri Catholic Church and a fourth degree Knights of Columbus, L.A. Lambert Council #1581 and Shawneetown Lions Club. Raymond was a Corrections officer at IYC, a coal miner and a teacher at the Shawneetown High School. He is survived by his wife, Delores Scherrer of Shawneetown; one daughter, Angela Rae and Bill Watson of Shawneetown; two sons, Daniel Raymond and Karen Scherrer of Glendale, Cal., Joseph David and Karen Scherrer of O’Fallon, Ill.; three sisters, Mary L. Hall of Fairfield Glade, Tenn., Janet S. and Bill Butler of Uniontown, Ky., Norma C. and Marvin Phillips of Hurst, Tex.; one brother, Charles E. and Jane Scherrer of Newburgh, Ind.; five grandchildren, Jacob and Anna Watson, Nathan and Luke Scherrer and Julia Scherrer. Raymond enjoyed spending time with family and friends and his time on the family farm. Visitation for Raymond will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown with Rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be on Friday, February 24, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shawneetown with Father Steven Beatty officiating. Burial will follow the Funeral Mass at St. Patrick Cemetery near Ridgway with military rites by Ridgway American Legion #596. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Kateri Building Fund.

I just read the obituary of Mr. Raymond Scherrer, what a delightful person he was, one of my very favorite teachers at Equality High School. May the Lord comfort the family in this time of sorrow.
