William Greer Obituary

William Daniel “Bill” Greer, 89, of Harrisburg, Illinois, passed away at the SIH Memorial Hospital in Carbondale on Saturday April 13, 2024.   Bill was born near Junction, the son of Alton Andrew and Orpha J. (Lynch) Greer.  He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War.  He spent his working years as a farmer and as foreman at the Shawnee Cabinet Factory in Shawneetown and also worked at Wilson Cabinets in Harrisburg.  He was married to Rita Helen Womack, who survives.  A christian in faith, he was a member of the Pankeyville Baptist Church and frequently attended the United Methodist Church in Equality.  Bill is survived by his loving wife, Rita Helen Greer of Harrisburg; one brother, James F. Greer of Murphysboro; his sister, Charlotte Mae Edmondson of Texas; two sister-in-laws, Beverly and Jerry Black of Harrisburg, Pamela and John Waller of Harrisburg.  He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Elizabeth Ann Ridgway and Mary Jane Mossman.  Visitation for Bill will be held on Tuesday, April 16th from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality.  The Reverend Donnie Hughes will officiate the service with burial to follow at the Leamington Cemetery in rural Junction.    Military Rites conducted by the Gallatin County Honors Team.
