Obituary


John Monroe Booten, 81, of Harrisburg, Illinois formerly of Equality, passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at the Carrier Mills Nursing Home in Carrier Mills.  He was born October 28, 1940 in Equality, the son of the late Clyde Booten and Gladys (Mondy) Borum.  John was a retired coal miner and also worked for the United States Forest Service.  He was also was an accomplished musician and played professionally.  John graduated from Equality High School and joined the United States Marine Corp in 1960 and served until 1964.  Also he was a member of the Masonic Lodge.   John loved to be in the outdoors and loved to fish.  He is survived by his son, John William and wife, Constance Booten of Marion; five grandchildren, Kyle Powell, Madison Hood, Daniel Hood, Jacob Hood, and Oliver William Booten; and his sister, Betty Pidcock.  Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Roades.  As per his wishes he will be cremated and there will be no services.  Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality will be charge of arrangements.
