Bud Schmitt Obituary

Raymond E. “Bud” Schmitt, 83, of Shawneetown, Illinois, passed away after an extended illness on Monday, January 17, 2022 at the Enfield Rehab and Health in Enfield.  He was born in Ridgway on October 23, 1938, the son of the late Edwin and Dolores (Abell) Schmitt.  Bud married his beloved wife, Elizabeth J. “Betty” Ande on the 30th of May in 1960.  Sadly, Betty preceded Bud in death on September 22nd of 1995.  Bud was retired from the Earl C. Clements Job Corps as a maintenance mechanic.  He was very active in the community.  Bud was a member of the St. Kateri Catholic Church and L.A. Lambert Council #1581 Knights of Columbus.  Also he was a lifetime member of the Shawneetown Fire Department.    He is survived by his large and loving family, his daughter, Lori and Carroll Hise of Shawneetown; four sisters, Sue Naas of Ridgway,  Jean and Frank Wills of Junction, Jane and Tom Harmon of Shawneetown, Lynn and Jim Schanzle of Carmi; two brothers, Jerry and Gena Schmitt of Mt. Vernon, Indiana, David and Lucinda Schmitt of Ridgway; two brother-in-laws, Jim Wargel and Jack Dickey, both of Ridgway; his granddaughter, Krystal and Kenny Lane of Shawneetown; his grandson, Joe Schmitt of Carterville; his great granddaughter, Brooklynn Lane,  and many nieces and nephews.  Bud was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his son, Michael Schmitt; his two sisters, Mary Ann Dickey and Kay Wargel; one brother-in-law, Burt Naas.  Visitation for Bud will be held on Saturday, January 22nd from 8:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. followed by the Knights of Columbus Service at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown.   Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. at the St. Kateri Catholic Church in Ridgway with Father Vincent Mukasa officiating.  Burial will follow at the St. Patrick Cemetery near Ridgway.  In lieu of flowers memorials in Bud’s memory may be made to the St. Kateri Altar Society.
