Bill H. Winters, 69, of Shawneetown, Illinois, passed away suddenly on Sunday the 21st of January, 2024 at his home in Shawneetown. Bill was one of two sons born to Ivy E. “Bud” and Dorothy J. “Dot” (Mohon) Winters. He was born on April 28, 1954 at Shawneetown. He married the former Patty Wiles on June 29, 1974. Bill was a retired Chief of Security at the American Coal Company in Galatia. Also he was the Shawneetown Chief of Police for a few years and also coached baseball and softball for several decades. Most of all Bill loved fishing with his grand kids. Bill is survived by his wife, Patty Winters of Shawneetown; one daughter, Laura and Chris Steele of New Haven; one son, Jay and Amanda Winters of Trenton; five grandchildren, Blain, Jillian, and Sloan Winters, Casen and Emersyn Steele. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ivy E. “Butch” Winters. Visitation for Bill will be held on Wednesday, January 24th from 10 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown. Pastor Jack Hall will officiate the service with burial at Rutherford Cemetery near Cave-In-Rock. Donations in Bill’s memory may be made to the Shawneetown Fire Department.
