Obituary

Ted Louis Wood, 93, of Junction, passed away on October 9, 2026, at the Linda White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana. Ted was born on March 26, 1933, to the late Thomas “Buck” and Madge (Prather) Wood of Junction. Ted leaves behind his loving wife of 71 years, Shirley (Oxford) Wood. Surviving Ted are his three sons: Terry (Leeanne), Carl (Donna), and Roger Wood; grandchildren: Brad (Christy) Wood, Tim (Courtney) Wood, Katie (Matt) Martin, April Wood, Cole (Courtney) Wood, Blake (Lindsey) Wood, Ryan Wood, Derek (Denya) Wood, and Holden (Deborah) Wood; and great grandchildren: Austin (Kaley) Wood, James and Jude Wood, Bailee and Logan Martin, Case Rister, Caston Wood, Hayden Wood, Emma and Lincoln Wood, and Rhett and Reid Wood; a sister Shirley Vespa, nieces Vicky Claycomb, Jean Vespa, Pam Giveans (Darryl), and nephews Steve Wood and Jeff Wood. Ted was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jerry and Paul David Wood, and nephew Paul David Wood Jr. Ted will be missed by many family, friends, and his church family at Equality Social Brethren Church, where he attended faithfully until his health declined.

Ted was a farmer by trade and loved the land, but most of all he loved his family. Nothing beat being called “Grandpa”, “Grandpa Ted”, or most commonly, “Gramps”, and everyone knew he was only a phone call away. He spent many mornings at the coffee shop at the Crossroads talking with lifelong friends about politics, horse racing, and the day's news. No words can say how much his family will miss him, but until we meet again.

A private family visitation will be held Tuesday, October 13, 2026 at Vickery Funeral Home in Shawneetown from 12pm-1pm. Graveside services will follow at Westwood Cemetery, with Matt Martin officiating and Bro. Matt Troxel bringing a prayer. Military rights will be held by U.S Air Force, and the Shawneetown and Ridgway American Legions. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ted’s memory to the Equality Social Brethren Church. 11305 Highway 1 Junction, IL 62954.
