Sherman Edgar Rider

September 23, 1935 — January 3, 2021

Sherman Edgar “Ed” Rider, 85, of Shawneetown, Illinois, passed away at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado on Sunday, January 3rd, 2021.  He was born on September 23, 1935 in Shawneetown, the son of the late Sherman and Blanche (Dillard) Rider.  He married the former Flora Hall on June 18, 1954 who survives.  Ed was a farmer by trade and a brother in Christ in the Methodist Church.  He is survived by his big loving family including his beloved wife, Flora Rider of  Shawneetown; one daughter, Sandra and D.R. Willis of Shawneetown; two sons, Sherman E. and Freda Rider, Rick and Jamie Rider, all of Shawneetown; two sisters, Judy and Butch Morse of Shawneetown, Donna Mortis of Evansville, Indiana; one brother, J.W. Rider of Ridgway; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.  Ed was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Rider; and his sister, Betty Shockley. He will be remembered for his big hugs, big smile and his love for Christ and family.  There will be a graveside service for Ed at Westwood Cemetery near Shawneetown on Tuesday, January 5th at 10 a.m. with Reverend Ron Johnson officiating.  Those attending should go directly to the cemetery.  Due to Covid-19, social distancing and masks are required.  Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown in charge of services.
