Rodney Wenzel

Rodney Wayne Wenzel, 75, of Equality, Illinois passed at his home surrounded by his family on Friday, April 11th, 2025. He was born on March 27th, 1950 in Harrisburg, the son of the late Charles Anthony "Todd" and Ethel Pauline (Parker) Wenzel. Rodney was a retired coal miner and a member of the Straightgate Church in Eldorado. He was also a past fire chief of the Equality Fire Department. Known as a jack of all trades, he loved to fish, hunt, and spending time with family. Rodney loved to tell stories and jokes. Above all he helped others not expecting anything in return. He is survived by his five children, Billy (Cristy) Wenzel of Hazelton, Indiana, Shannon Wenzel of Ridgway, Rodney "Booger" Wenzel of Hazelton, Indiana, Mary Gray of Shawneetown, Benita (Cyle) Turner of Allendale; fifteen grandchildren, Christina, Bryce, Wyatt, Makayla, Brittney, Miah, Kayla, Nevaeh, Jordyn, Isaiah, John, Elijah, Drew (Whitney), and Trypp; six great grandkids; several nieces and nephews. Rodney was preceded in death by his parents; his two brothers, Bert and Charles William "Bob" Wenzel; three sisters, Carolyn Sue Montgomery, Mary Ann and Beverly Wenzel; one granddaughter, Billie Sue Wenzel. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 3rd at 10 a.m. at the Elmwood Cemetery near Equality with Pastor Curt Morris to officiate the service. In lieu of flowers donations maybe made to the Equality Fire Department. Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality will be in charge of arrangements.
