Rev. Larry Gordon Lewis

December 9, 1942 — July 27, 2025

Junction

Rev. Larry Gordon Lewis of Junction, Illinois, went home to glory on July 27, 2025 leaving behind a powerful legacy of faith, ministry, and devotion to Jesus Christ. Born December 9, 1942 at Rosiclare hospital, Larry’s life was quickly called to ministry including years of preaching the gospel and shepherding God’s people. Larry was first ordained as a minister in 1971, and a year later began pastoring Potter’s Church in Cave-in-Rock, a ministry he faithfully led for 47 years from 1971 until 2019. His preaching, rooted in the truth of God’s word and a passionate love for Christ, impacted generations of believers. With a heart for all people and nations, Larry carried the message of Jesus around the world, ministering in places like Africa and Israel, highlighting the importance of the book of Revelation, a topic in which he authored many books. Beyond the pulpit, Larry had many passions and a gift for connecting with people. A proud veteran, Larry served three years in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War before being honorably discharged. Though he never forgot the impact the Navy made on his life, he always remembered to enjoy what life had to offer. He was known for his stories, wisdom, and willingness to talk to anyone who would listen, especially about Jesus. Whether on a front porch, in a fishing boat, inside a grocery store, or over a snack cake, Larry never met a stranger. On November 2, 1985, Larry married the love of his life Louise who is lovingly known by their surviving grandchildren as “Memaw,” and together they built a family rooted in love, laughter, and faith. Larry is survived by his children Debbie Wilson, Curtis Morris (Michelle), Tina Rumjahn (Howie), Gina Temple (Don), and Jennifer Alexander (Jim); His siblings Lonnie Ray Lewis and June Mcdowell; And numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins, and members of his extended family in Christ. He was preceded into death by his parents, Joseph “Doc” and Cleta Lewis, and siblings Jack, Gerald, Virgil “Dink”, and Gladys.

Rev. Larry Lewis fought the good fight, finished the race, and never steered from his faith. He has now received his crown of righteousness from the Savior he loved and served so passionately. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:3-4
