Randall Eugene Berkel

Randall Eugene Berkel, 80, of Carterville, Ill., passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. He was born on December 11, 1936 in Harrisburg, the son of the late Frank Joseph and Agatha “Kitty” (McLain) Berkel. Randall married Mary Louise Simpson on the 22nd of August of 1959. Mary preceded him in death on July 31, 2008. Randall retired from the production line of the Ford Motor Company Chicago Heights Stamping Plant. He also attended the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. Randall was a devoted husband and father who enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and camping. He is survived by his two daughters, Anna Marie Berkel of Carterville, Cynthia Louise and Gary Hall of Carbondale; four grandchildren, Melissa and Joshua Berkel-Morale, Megan Berkel, Izaak Berkel, and Sarah Slager; four great grandchildren, Nicoletta Morale, Levi Berkel, Alivia Berkel, and Xavier Berkel. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two daughters, Janice Elaine Urban and Julia Lynn Slager; one granddaughter, Ashley Marie Urban; one brother, David Godfrey Berkel. Visitation for Randall will be held on Friday, November 10th from 5 to 7 p.m. with prayer service at 5 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality. Funeral Mass will be at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Equality the following day, Saturday, November 11th at 10 a.m. with Father Steven Beatty conducting the service. Burial will follow the service at St. Joseph Cemetery near Equality. Donations in Randall’s memory may be made to the St. Joseph Cemetery - Equality.
