Oma Lee Lewis, 88, of Harrisburg, Ill., passed away at her home on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at 6:42 a.m. Oma Lee and her twin sister, Leone, were born May 30, 1929, to the late Leeman and Nola (Kimmel) McClerren near West End, Illinois in Franklin County. Oma Lee married David W. Lewis on July 30, 1950 and David preceded her in death on July 17, 2010. Oma Lee accepted Jesus as her Savior at a young age and served Him all of her life. She was active in three churches during her life, Liberty Methodist, Mt. Moriah Methodist, and Equality Christian Center. She loved people and had a caring spirit towards everyone she met. She attended Thompsonville High School and graduated from Southern Illinois Normal University in 1950 with a degree in business. After teaching in Carrier Mills and Galatia in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s, she decided her passion was being a full time mother and farmer's wife. Oma Lee loved the outdoors and would drive a tractor all day, then work in her garden, from which she would give away bushels of tomatoes to her neighbors. She also spread lime along with her husband for many area farmers. Oma Lee served on the Prospect Water District Board and was involved with Farm Bureau Women in which she was chosen as Farm Wife of the Year. During the winter, she would substitute teach in area schools for many years. Oma Lee is survived by her children: Becky (Robert) Claborn of Enid , Okla., Greg (Janet) Lewis, Steve (Christy) Lewis, and Cindy (Ted) Boulds of Harrisburg. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, Preston (Kayleigh) Claborn, Baret Claborn, Matthew (Brett) Lewis, Michelle (Mike) Eisenhauer , Dianne (Ethan) Wilkinson, Daniel (Kristen) Lewis, Cassidy (Brad) Russell, Austin (Jacqueline) Lewis, Jacob (Kayla) Lewis, Ryan Boulds, and Courtney Boulds; eight great grandchildren; Abbie Lewis, Brendon, Mason, and Aubrey Russell, Blakelyn Lewis, Grace and Reed Eisenhauer, and soon Hutson Lewis. She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter, Debbie, four siblings, Anna Mae Williams, Carl McClerren, Nadine Gholson, and twin, Leone Maurer. The family would like to thank her caregivers who so lovingly took care of Oma Lee the past few years: Freda Tarlton, Karla Vickery, Ruby Milligan, Sharri Hamilton, Debbie Russell, Heather Palmer, Angie Dunning, Kim Roberts, and Lounita Mitchell. Visitation will be held Friday, October 27, 2017 from 5 to 8 pm at the Equality Christian Center. The funeral service will be the following day at the church at 11:00 am with the Rev. Allen Porter and Rev. Ted Boulds officiating. Burial will follow the service at Lindale Cemetery near Eldorado. Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to University of Illinois Extension for Saline County 4H and Hospice of Southern Illinois.
