Ocie L. (Corbin) Paxton, passed away on April 14, 2026, in Cave in Rock, leaving behind a legacy marked by professional excellence and devoted family love. Born on April 6, 1940, in Chance, Kentucky, Ocie dedicated much of her life to the real estate industry, emerging as a leading figure in Southern Illinois for over two decades.
Throughout her impressive 34-year career, Ocie Paxton distinguished herself as the number one real estate agent in Southern Illinois for over 3 decades, a testament to her expertise, dedication, and commitment to her clients. She held the esteemed position of Broker in Charge at Shawnee Trails Realty, where her leadership and knowledge set a high standard in the real estate community.
Beyond her professional achievements, Ocie was known for the profound love she held for her husband of 38 years, Gary E. Paxton, and her cherished family. Her personal life was enriched by her deep relationships with her loved ones. She is survived by her husband, Gary; son Howard Garrett and his wife Patty of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; her sisters Joyce McIntyre, Dee Matthews, and Edra Anderson; as well as her grandchildren Kevin Garrett, Rachel Garrett, Jamie Garrett, and Morgan Harris-Howard. Her great-grandchildren Jude Berry, Cameron Berry, and Ermias Harris Howard also remember her fondly.
Ocie’s family mourns alongside those who preceded her in death, including her father James Corbin, mother Ida Mae (Stotts) Corbin, son Christopher Garrett, sisters Mary Bingham and Catherine Murphy, and brothers James Corbin and Delbert Corbin.
Ocie Paxton’s life was characterized by a tireless work ethic, an unwavering dedication to family, and a genuine passion for her career. She will be remembered for her significant contributions to the real estate field, her enduring love for her family, and the sincere connections she fostered throughout her life. Her passing marks the end of an influential chapter in Southern Illinois’ real estate history and a deeply felt loss to all who knew her.
