Mildred Lee Black, 78, of Shawneetown, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2013, 2:00 p.m. at the Carbondale Memorial Hospital. She was born on February 7, 1935 in Equality, the daughter of Charles Allen and Mary C. (Haney) Porter. She was married to Edgar Lee Black and he preceded her in death on May 14, 1972. Mildred retired as an LPN at the IYC in Harrisburg. Also, she was a member of the Shawneetown First Baptist Church. Mildred is survived by son, Stephen and Brenda Wood of Shawneetown; six sisters, Ruby Oxford of Rolling Meadows, Winifred Joyce Lewis of Chillicothe, Mary C. "Connie" Brazier of Marion, Bonnie and Bernard Thomas of Uniontown, Ky., Catherine "Cathy" Hopper of Equality, and Linda Reed of Creal Springs; two brothers, Joe David Porter of Junction, Gene and Mary Etta Porter, also of Junction; five grandchildren, Renee and Travis Stevens of Mulberry, Ind., Brent and Ashley Ferguson of Mulberry, Ind., Stevi and Matt Schaning of Cambridge, Wis., Kirk Wood of Dayton, Ind., Brandon Wood of Eldorado; and two great grandchildren, Isabelle and Ryan. She was preceded in death by parents; husband; one son, Paul David Wood Jr.; two brothers, Noel Allen and Charles Edgar Porter; one sister, Evadeen Haney. Visitation for Mildred will be held on Wednesday, April 24 th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, April 25 th at 10 a.m. with Pastor Jack Hall officiating. Burial will be at Westwood Cemetery near Shawneetown.
