Marie L (Thompson) Shewmaker peacefully departed this world January 23, 2026, at 3:45am at the Anchor -Voyage Senior Living in Marion, IL with her loved ones by her side. Marie was born July 12, 1943, in Omaha IL to Raymond and Adeline Thompson. She was the third of six children raised on their family farm in rural Omaha. Marie spoke of simpler times as a child there. She recalled walking barefoot through the grass and fields as she and her siblings played together in the summer.
Marie began her school days in a one room school house in Omaha, known as Adkin School. She later attended Norris City-Omaha HS, where she graduated in 1960 at the age of 16. In 1963 she graduated from Harrisburg School of Beauty Culture and was licensed by the State of IL as a Registered Beauty Culturist.
On July 14, 1967 she married Glendell Shewmaker in Harrisburg, where they resided until buying a home in Raleigh, IL. They shared 29 years of marriage, but later divorced in 1996.Marie was a homemaker, devoting her days to managing the household and raising two daughters. Later she found joy in spending time with her grandchildren who affectionately referred to her as Boo-Boo.Marie will be remembered for her beautiful blue eyes, lovely soprano singing voice, and strong yet sweet spirit.Marie is survived by her daughters Shelly (Doug) Anderson of Creal Springs and Angela (Tom) Evetts of Stonefort; Grandchildren Breanna (Montana) Jolly of Harrisburg, Tommy Evetts, Destiny Evetts of Stonefort, Ethan (Hannah) Anderson of Marion, Cole Anderson of Creal Springs; Great Grandchildren- Cody, Brody and Abigail Jolly, and expected in March 2026 a Great Granddaughter Eden Anderson; Sisters -Pauline (Carl) Edwards of Vienna, and Helen Rollman of Vienna.She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bernard Thompson of Ladd, IL, twin siblings Daniel Ray Thompson of Leavenworth KS and Betty Mae Wright of New Harmony IN, and an infant grandchild Jon Wesley Evetts.There will be no visitation. Friends and family are asked to proceed to Bethlehem Cemetery in Omaha where a graveside service will be held Thursday, February 5th at 11:00 am.The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the excellent staff at the Anchor in Marion. Special thanks to CNA Ciara Clay who especially loved Marie. She often referred to Marie as her "sweet, sassy girl". Marie will be greatly missed by those who loved her most.
