Lydia B. (Smith) Oxford

October 10, 1921 — April 4, 2016

Lydia B. Oxford, 94, of Shawneetown, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2016, 4:43 p.m. at the Harrisburg Medical Center in Harrisburg.  She was born in Inman, Ill. on October 10, 1921, the daughter of Otis and Emily (Moye) Smith.  Lydia married Lowell Oxford on October 10, 1935 and he preceded her in death on September 28, 1988.  She was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church near Cave-In-Rock and attended the First Baptist Church of Shawneetown.  Lydia is survived by her four daughters, Shirley and Ted Wood of Junction, Linda and Dean Jerrels of Elizabethtown, Connie and Rick Casey of Alabama, Joan and Dennis Kaegi of Texas; eleven grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son and daughter-in-law, Otis and Janet Oxford; four sisters, Winnie Chamberlain, Lorene Mann, Martha Kelly, and Eva P. Bostick; two brothers, Dale and John T. Smith; and one grandson, L.A. Oxford.  Visitation for Lydia will be held on Friday, April 8, 2016 from 10 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown.  Pastor Jack Hall will be officiating with burial at Westwood Cemetery near Shawneetown.  Donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Shawneetown.
