Leah (Brinkley) Williams

August 23, 1930 — November 23, 2017

Leah Williams, 87, of Equality, passed away at 11:18 a.m. on Thursday, November 23, 2017 at Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, Ind.  She was born August 23, 1930 in Chicago , the daughter of Charles and Jewell (Vinyard) Brinkley.  Leah married Bobby Gene Williams on February 24, 1952 and enjoyed sixty-five years of marriage.  She is survived by her husband, Bob Williams of Equality; one daughter, Janice and husband Bill Lane of Equality; her son in law, Bernie Bayer also of Equality; six grandchildren, Tera and Wes Henson of Junction, Tami and Jack Logsdon of Shawneetown, Megan and Jeremy Jackson of Ridgway, Jarah and Alex Scates of Evansville, Ind., Lisa and John Gehner of Athens, Ga., Dr. Mark and Pam Bayer of Charleston; fifteen great grandchildren, Will and Lane Henson, Daine and Dawson Hish, Emily Holloway, Hannah Logsdon, Audrey and Grant Jackson, Crew Alexander Scates, Jackson, Addison, and Ashlyn Bayer, Ayla, Lily, and Wyatt Gehner.  Also survived by her  brother and sister in laws, Jerry and Jean Williams of Equality, Joe and Ruinette Williams of Waycross, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mona Bayer; her parents; one sister, Nada Frohock; one brother, Charles (Junior) Brinkley; her great granddaughter, Grace Anne Bayer.  Leah graduated from Equality High School, attended nurses training and worked as a secretary.  She was known as a very hard worker and one who liked to help people.  For years she was a waitress at the Crossroads Restaurant and activity director at the Eldorado Good Shepherd Nursing Home.  Later in life she did housekeeping and her last and favorite job was helping with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Leah was a longtime member of the Equality Presbyterian Church where she had been a Sunday School teacher, youth director, singer, and doing whatever job might be needed there.  She had been a 4-H leader, PTA president, and Home Bureau member.  In recent years you would find her writing to people and reading her Bible.  Leah’s visitation will be held on Sunday, November 26th from 12:30 p.m. until funeral service time at 3 p.m. at the Equality Presbyterian Church.  Pastor Jerry Williams will officiate with burial at Elmwood Cemetery near Equality.  Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality in charge of arrangements.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Equality Presbyterian Church.
