Larry Dean Thrasher, 70, of Shawneetown, passed away at his home on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at 7 a.m. Larry was born on November 2, 1943 in Shawneetown, the son of Pete and Edith (Mills) Thrasher. He married Joy Martin on July 25, 1985. Larry did many things during his lifetime, including working at Bob and Jerry Electronics in Ridgway and later twenty-eight years as maintenance supervisor for the Housing Authority of Gallatin County. He loved to fish, hunt, wood working, yard work, gardening, spending time with the grand kids and a fan of Cardinal Baseball. He could do anything. A faithful member of the church he was baptized in, the First Presbyterian Church in Shawneetown. He served as an elder for many years. Larry was a proud Vietnam War Army veteran. He is survived by his loving wife, Joy Thrasher; four children, Angie and Bryce Hampton, Mike and Lily Johnson, Laura Johnson, Ron and Aline Johnson M.D.; two brothers, Don and Jody Thrasher, Bob and Dorothy Thrasher; nine grandchildren, Taylor Vickery, Lauryn Hampton, Carson Downen, Daphne Johnson, David Johnson, Naomi Johnson, Cedric Johnson, Brittney Rann, Alexis Rann; one great grandchild, Emma Rann; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Kevin Thrasher; three sisters, Linda Sue Newcombe, Billie Jean Mitchell, Norma Lowe; three brothers, Jim, Jack, and Steve Thrasher. Visitation for Larry will be held on Thursday, November 21st from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown. Funeral service on Friday, November 22nd at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Shawneetown with Reverend Wade Halva officiating. Burial will be at Westwood Cemetery with Military Rites by Ridgway American Legion Post #596 and the Military Honors Team.
