J. William “Bill” E. Wood, 61, of Norris City, Ill., passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at his home. He was born February 5, 1957 in Eldorado, the son of Kelley E. and Melba (Graham) Wood. He married Marla Lowery on June 10, 1977 in Benton. Bill was a graduate of SIU-Carbondale, he worked for WADI in their “Fathers Matter Program”. He had also worked at Southern Illinois Alternative Living “The Carmi House”. He was a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed hunting, going to movies, but most of all his grandchildren and all of their activities. He is survived by his wife, Marla Wood; one son, George (Heather) Wood of Carmi; one daughter, MaryBeth (Robert) Hogan of Monroe City, Mo.; four grandchildren, Titus K.E. Wood, Aurora G. Hogan, Henry W.R. Hogan and Genevieve J. Hogan; two brothers, George R. (Bob)Wood of Harrisburg, David T. (Phyllis) Wood of Shawneetown; two sisters, Mary Frances Skaggs of Shawneetown, and Prudence Ann (George) Wilson of Rineyville, Ky. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews including niece, Tracie Milligan of Pawleys Island, S.C. and nephew, Troy Milligan of Harrisburg. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, MaryKate Hogan, one infant brother, Kelley E. Wood, Jr. and one nephew, Leon Milligan. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 18th at Ditney Ridge Baptist Church in Norris City with Pastor Scott Luckett officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, August 17th at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Ronald McDonald House in Springfield, IL and Carmi Junior Pro football and can be made at the funeral home. The Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Carmi is in charge of arrangements.
