Jean Marie Wargel, 83, of Ridgway, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2017, 5:50 p.m., at the Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. Jean was born on July 21, 1934 near Ridgway, the daughter of the late Joseph H. and Rose (Abell) Wargel. She first worked as the secretary at the Scherrer’s Equipment Company for twenty two years and then began working at the Wabash Valley Service Company and retired from there after twenty five years of service. Jean was a member of the St. Kateri Catholic Church in Ridgway and played the organ at the church for several years. She was very devoted and generous to her nieces and nephews. Jean leaves behind two brothers, Charles J. and Mary Beth Wargel of Equality, Robert E. “Bob” and Ida Nell Wargel of Marion; six nieces, Donna Jane and Bill Scheppe of Wheaton, Nina L. Wargel of Eldorado, Helen R. Wargel of Chicago, Teresa and Brady Boulds of Eldorado, Kathryn A. and Michael Anderson of Coatesville, Ind., Melinda R. and Jeff Veller of Salem; one nephew, Thomas J. and Claudine Wargel of Clinton; eight great nieces and nephews, Andrew, Kathleen, and Karalyn Scheppe; Logan, Noah, and Ely Boulds; Landon and Kinser Wargel. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Elizabeth Ann Wargel. Visitation for Jean will be on Friday, August 18, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m. with prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Ridgway. Funeral Mass will be at the St. Kateri Catholic Church in Ridgway on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 10 a.m. with Father Steven Beatty and Msgr. Joseph Lawler conducting Mass. Burial will be at the St. Patrick Cemetery near Ridgway. Donations in Jean’s Memory may be made to the St. Kateri Building Fund, Hospice of Southern Illinois or charity of choice.
