James A. McConnell, 85, of Junction, Ill., passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, April 26, 2018. He was born on July 4, 1932 in the Eagle Creek community, the son of the late Paul Potter and Sarah Elizabeth Keasler. Jim married Carmeta Thacker on the 2nd of June in 1955. For forty-four years Jim was the Postmaster at the Junction Post Office. He was a member of the Calvary’s Promise near Shawneetown. Jim served his country during the Korean Conflict in the Army. He is survived by his loving family, his wife of sixty-two years, Carmeta McConnell of Junction; one son, Jasper McConnell of Junction; three daughters, Paula and Albert Russell of Salem, Donna and Carl Wood of Junction, Susan and Joe Price of Equality; ten grandchildren, Makenzie and Nate Golden, Madesen and Evan Bradley, Aniston Price, Matt and Mary Ann Russell, Mike and Stacey Russell, April Wood, Cole and Courtney Wood, Blake and Lindsey Wood, Gary Clevenger and Gabe Clevenger; eight great grandchildren, Leah, Hunter, Parker, Miah, Case, Caston, Emma, and Hayden. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Marilyn J. Morse; and one brother, William R. McConnell. Visitation for Jim will be held on Monday, April 30th from 9 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown. The Rev. James R. Hubbard and Rev. Larry Lewis will be officiating the service. Burial will be at the Leamington Cemetery with military rites. The family would like to give a special thank you to the Hospice of Southern Illinois for their special care of Jim and would like donations be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
