James E. "Shorty" Martin

James E. "Shorty" Martin, 57, of Junction, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2008, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was a rural mail carrier for ten years in the Shawneetown area. He was born on August 7, 1950 near Nebo, Ky. to the late James Monroe Martin and Ruby (Putty) Martin Pritchard. He married Janet Baldwin on July 22, 1974. Shorty was an Army Vietnam veteran, member of the Omaha Masonic Lodge #723 and attended the Equality Social Brethren Church. Shorty was a loving husband, father and friend and is survived by wife, Janet Martin of Junction; mother, Ruby Pritchard of Equality; two sons, Sean and Sarah Martin of Omaha, Matt and Katie Martin of Junction; eight siblings, Ann and Philip Brazier of Shawneetown, Brenda and Neil Roberts of Pleasanton, Calif., Mona and Eddie Moore of Junction, Mertie and Kirk Phillips of Louisville, Ky., Lillian Lewis of Marion, Marylin and John Hopson of Equality, Wanda and Larry Rexing of Equality, Raymond and Tina Martin of Junction; two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Anna Martin; nineteen nieces and nephews along with thirteen great nieces and nephews. Visitation for Shorty will be on Wednesday, April 30th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown with Masonic Services at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 1st at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Bill Jones officiating. Burial will follow the service at Hogan Cemetery with Military Rites by Ridgway American Legion Post #596. In lieu of flowers, Shorty asked for donations to be made to the Equality Social Brethren Church or St. Jude Children Research Hospital.
