George Christopher Vickery, Jr., 87, resident of Shawneetown passed away Wednesday June 17, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville. George was born July 15, 1927 in Gallatin County to the late George C. and Zela (Edwards) Vickery. On December 9, 1949 he married the former Eva Murphy who survives. George was a WWII Veteran serving in the US Navy. He was a member of the Ohio Valley General Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for over 50 years. He owned and operated Vickery Body Shop in Shawneetown. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters; Deb (Dave) Price of Effingham, Judy (Virgil) Hargrave of Shawneetown, Barb Smith of Buncombe, 10 grandchildren; Brandi (Micheal) Rushing, Bryan (Teri) Hargrave, Amy (Matt) Focht, Krista (Dan) Stone, Dustin Smith, Robert Smith, Jon Smith, Tyler Downs, Kaleb Hensley, Brock Hensley and 6 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers; Robert, John and Louis and one sister; Dorothy Price. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 pm Sunday June 21, 2015 at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown with Rev. Micheal Rushing Officiating. Burial will be in Westwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday 5-7 pm at the funeral home.
