George William “Bill” Adams, 88, of Shawneetown, passed away at the Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 11:24 p.m. He was born to Raymond and Mae (Mayfield) Adams on May 18, 1926 in Ridgway. Bill married Evelyn Elaine Thompson on June 3, 1950 and she preceded him in death on September 1, 2009. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He retired after twenty-five years as a Illinois State Trooper. Also, he was a member of the Shawneetown First Presbyterian Church and a member of the Ridgway American Legion Post#596. Survived by two daughters, Susie Adams of Shawneetown, Marsha Meiners and Steve Coriasco of Marion; two sons, Kevin and Carol Adams of Round Pond, Maine, Jeff and Rhonda Adams of Shawneetown; one sister, Virginia “Jenny” Drone of Ridgway; eleven grandchildren, Matt, Amy, Klay, Katie, Deana, Callie, Lindsay, Jackie, Sean, Garrett and Wyatt; seven great grandchildren, Tyler Joseph, Zoe, Zac, Tyler Ranee, Lilly, Cora and Kaleb. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, John Quincy Adams, and sister, Pauline Wheatley. Visitation for Bill will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown, Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 11 a.m. with Reverend Wade Halva and Reverend Mike Fields officiating. Burial will be at the Elmwood Cemetery near Equality with military rites by Ridgway American Legion.
