Gene Overton

Gene Overton, 82, passed away at 4:38pm on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at his residence. He was born on December 10, 1935, in Ridgway, Illinois, the son of the late Adron and Ruth (Reynolds) Overton. He married the former Elsie Mae Lawrence on December 11, 1954, in Hartford, and she survives. Other survivors include one daughter and son in law: Barb and Mike Wieckhorst of Alton, three sons and two daughters in law: Ron and Donna Overton of St. Charles, Missouri, Terry and Mary Overton of Rosewood Heights, Keith Overton of Hartford, eight grandchildren: Kori Sloan and her husband: Jim, Kacie Gallegos and her husband: Tony, Alex Overton, Rodney Overton and his wife: Vanessa, Katie Overton, Ashlyn Smay and her husband: Joel, Tori Overton, Mitchell Overton, one sister: Irma Moye of Ridgway, Illinois, many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. Gene was formerly employed by many area auto dealerships as a mechanic. He retired after eighteen years from Albrecht – Hamlin Chevrolet in 1995. He was a former member of the Wood River Moose Lodge #1349.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter: Cindy Mae Overton, one sister: Judy Koener, three brothers: Dale Overton, Tom Overton, and Bill Overton.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 2pm to 6pm on Sunday, May 20, 2018, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Monday, May 21, 2018, at the funeral home. Chaplain Randy Butler will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.  Memorials are suggested to BJC Hospice of Alton and will be accepted at the funeral home.  Local announcement provided by Vickery Funeral Chapel of Ridgway.
