Elmer McCuan, 87 of Equality, passed away peacefully at 7:25 A.M, Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Gallatin Manor Nursing Home in Ridgway.

Elmer was born on August 10, 1938, in Glendale, IL, to the late Orviel McCuan and Leora (Craig) McCuan. Elmer married the late Helen Adams on March 24, 1965. They shared 57 years of marriage together and are now reunited. He was a retired Peabody coal miner and musician. He enjoyed playing the guitar, riding his three-wheeler, fishing, and hunting. Elmer attended Equality Church of God, and he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Elmer is survived by daughter, Donna Price of Harrisburg; son, Larry McCuan and wife Pam (Woods) of Equality; four grandchildren, Brian Tolley of Caseyville; Ashley (Daniel) Dooley, of McLeansboro; Amy Tolley of Harrisburg; Amanda Payne of Harrisburg; twelve great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helen, and his son, James William “Jimmy” Merritt.

Graveside services will be held at 1 PM, Monday, February 9, 2026, at Elmwood Cemetery in Equality; Rev. Duke Williams will officiate.
