Edward Carl Sieverding, 92, of Sturgis, Ky., formerly of Equality, Ill., passed away at his home on Monday, January 26, 2015, 1:10 p.m. He was born on November 27, 1922 in Rosewell, S.D., one of thirteen children born to Ben J. and Elizabeth (Hoffman) Sieverding. A Navy Veteran of World War Two he was also a member of the St. Kateri Catholic Church and life member of the VFW, Equality American Legion Post#595. In the late nineteen-fifty’s he owned and operated Ed’s Bait Shop in Pickstown, S.D. and later in Yankton, S.D. Ed also worked in the Bunker Hill Mine at Kellogg, Idaho and then worked in construction at Frontier Kemper until his retirement. He was always very handy and could fix or build anything. Ed is survived by his wife, Frances E. (Bradley) Rummele Sieverding; six children, Rich (Holly) Sieverding of Murrieta, Cal., Shirley Moody of Yankton, S.D., Sherry Schempp of Vista, Cal., Sheila Novak of Yankton, S.D., Brenda (Mac) McQueen of Stafford, Va., Valerie (Kenny) Novak of Yankton, S.D.; six step children, Johnna (Bob) McPeek of Carmi, Carla Perry of Minn., Barbara (John) Skuzinski of Minn., Linda Rummele Adams of Chicago, Tom (Audrey) Rummele of the Netherlands, Mary (Jerry Dale Hedgepath) LeRoy of Sturgis, Ky.; and raised grandson, Jerry Ray (Pam) Barnard of Harrisburg; sixteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; fifteen step grandchildren, twenty-two step great grandchildren, two step great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Eleanore (Fritz) Forsberg of Pinehurst, Idaho, Anita (Harold) Miller of Lake Andes, S.D. Ed is preceded in death by his parents; nine siblings and one step daughter, Yvonne Shafer. Visitation for Ed will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2015 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality with prayer service with Father Ryan Harpole at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be on Friday, January 30, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Equality with Father Steven Beatty officiating. Burial will be at the St. Joseph Cemetery near Equality with Military Rites by the Equality American Legion Post #595. Donations in Ed’s memory may be made to St. Anthony Hospice of Henderson, Ky.
