Dorothy F. Frields, 95, of Shawneetown, Ill., passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, August 28, 2018. She was born on December 16, 1922 in Shawneetown, one of six children of Arnold and Rachel (Cutrell) Smock. Dorothy married Willard Frields on January 19, 1946 in Chicago. Willard preceded her in death on January 26, 1989. She retired as secretary of the Ridgway Farm Bureau and after that she did volunteer work at the Harrisburg Hospital Auxiliary and the Shawneetown Public Library. Also she was a faithful member of Shawneetown First Baptist Church. Dorothy is survived by her sister, Mary McKenzie of Weston, W. Va.; five nieces, Alberta and Raphael Doerr of Shawneetown, Doris Jeannie and Ron Simeur of Peoria, Sharon Sue and Tim Ross of Weston, W. Va., Joyce and David Dortch of Junction and Debbie Smock; five nephews, Fred and Faye Orman of Karnak, Howard Orman of Columbia, S.C., Kenny and Lynn Walters of Elizabethtown, Darrell and Genene Walters of Shawneetown and Mark Smock. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Geneva Orman and Wanda Walters; two brothers, Charles and Donald Smock; one nephew, Charles Smock. Visitation for Dorothy will be held on Saturday, September 1st from noon until service time at 2 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown. Pastor Jack Hall will be officiating the service and burial will be at the Westwood Cemetery near Shawneetown. Donations in Dorothy’s memory may be made to the Shawneetown Public Library or Shawneetown First Baptist Church.
