Danny Elder, 63, of Omaha, passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, 2:50 a.m., at Harrisburg Medical Center in Harrisburg. He was born on August 11, 1950 in Carrier Mills, the son of Hobert Elder and Jewell L. (Riggs) Hurst. Danny is survived by wife, Gerri (Turner) Elder of Omaha; two daughters, April and Chris Taylor of Henderson, Ky., Tammy Seals of Vernon; two step daughters, Roxanne and Robert Essex of Eldorado, Jamie and Will Douglas of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Cody Stanley, Valerie Stanley, Malayna Douglas and McKendra Douglas; one sister, Brenda Essary of California; one brother, Darrell Hurst of Kentucky; two aunts, Novella Keener and Norma Lindsey; numerous cousins; nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Brenda and Gerry Archer; two brother-in-laws, Dwight and Carol Turner, Mike and Tami Turner. Preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Barbara “Cookie” Hardin; one granddaughter, Brianna Nicole Essex; an aunt, Mavis Sturman and an uncle, Leroy Elder. Danny was a superman to a lot of people. Being a Alpha I patient, God gave him a second chance in life with a lung transplant in 1995. His fight for life was greater than most would ever strive for. Danny stayed in the fight until the final round. The round where God said, that’s enough pain – come on home and be free. He was an avid gardener and took care of Gods creations. Danny was a talented musician and was given a gift for music, he started his music career in the Bad LT Band as a drummer and ended his career playing his guitar in church. Danny was a member of New Hope General Baptist Church and loved his God, his church and his church family. He will be greatly missed by his mother and father-in-law, Dwight and Vanda Turner; his family; church and community. Visitation will be at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Omaha on Friday, June 20, 2014 from 5 to 8 p.m. Celebration of his life will be on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 11 a.m. at New Hope General Baptist Church near Ridgway with Reverend Roger Hobbs officiating. Burial will be at the West Union Cemetery near Carmi.
