Cletus C. Wargel, 80, of Equality, passed away at his home on Monday, September 7, 2015 at 1:46 a.m. He was born in Equality on November 25, 1934, the son of Anthony “Andy” and Nell (Minor) Wargel. Cletus married his high school sweetheart, Bette J. Moore on June 6, 1953. She had preceded him in death on June 26, 2010. Cletus retired after thirty three years from ICI as a heavy equipment operator out of Operating Engineers Local 181 where he was a 50+ year member. He was also Equality Twp. Supervisor from 1981 to 2001, Twp. Trustee from 2005 to present, member of the Equality Fire Dept. and a member of the St. Kateri Catholic Church. He also owned and operated the Wargel Backhoe Service. Cletus is survived by six children, Cyndy (Nick) DeVous of Equality, Susan (Donnie) Bryant of Carmi, Tony Wargel of Equality, Pam (Stacy) Wenzel of Junction, Beth Wargel of Equality, Tim Wargel of Evansville, Ind.; one sister, Lucille (Woody) Locke of Westminster, S. Carolina; sister-in-laws, Mari Lou (Gordon) Smith, Carol Wargel, Mary Agnes Wargel; brother-in-law, Bill (Margaret) Moore; fifteen grandchildren, Charissa Reeves, Nichole (Andy) Like, Sam (Jaimee) DeVous, Nathan Aslinger, Michael (Mel) Aslinger, Garrett (Michelle) Wargel, Emily (Japheth) Rush, Jerome (Staci) Wenzel, Colt (Lane) Wenzel, Cody Williams, Christie (Payton) Haney, Kyleigh (Zachery) Beal, Hannah Wargel, Zachariah Wargel, Madalynn Wargel; fifteen great grandchildren, Luke and Jillian Reeves; Ava, Ella, Zeb and Audra Like, Harper DeVous; Mayson and Makynzie Aslinger; Lainey Rush; Davis Lutes and Brady Wenzel; Colden and Asher Wenzel; Kailyn Williams; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife; one son, C. Douglas Wargel; one sister, Maxine Seibert; brothers, John, Robert, William, and Gilbert Wargel; two grandchildren, Ivy DeVous, Zane Wargel; one daughter in law, Laine (Cox) Wargel. Visitation for Cletus will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 from 3 p.m. until service time at 7:30 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality with Father Steven Beatty officiating. As per his wishes he will be cremated and will be interred at the St. Joseph Cemetery near Equality at a later date. Memorials in Cletus’s memory may be made to St. Joseph Cemetery - Equality, St. Kateri Building Fund, or Deaconess VNA Hospice.
