Charles Anthony “Tony” Scates, 63, of Omaha, Ill., passed away at his home on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 10:07 a.m. He was born on June 25, 1954 in Eldorado, the son of the late William Louis and Juanita Marie (Holt) Scates. On June 17, 1977 Tony married Marzel Aline Mitchell who survives. During his life Tony had several jobs, he operated Scates Service Station for thirteen years, worked for the coal mines, Wabash Valley, trucker for Eagle Valley, and farmed. Tony was a member of the St. Kateri Catholic Church. He is survived by his loving wife, Marzel A. Scates of Omaha; two sons, Ben Scates of Omaha, Will and Jessica Scates of Greenville, Ky.; five sisters, Judy Scates of New York, NY, Kay and Bob Charleton of Shawneetown, Sue and Bud Kimbro of Ridgway, Helen and Ron Rushing of Shawneetown, Debbie and David Fleischer of New York, NY; one brother, Bill and Karon Scates of Shawneetown; two grandsons, Roux Scates, William Arthur Scates; one granddaughter, Reno Scates. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Molly Ann Scates; two brothers, Robert W. and Larry Scates; and one sister, Mary Elizabeth Scates. Funeral Mass for Tony will be held on Friday, December 22nd at 1 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shawneetown. Visitation will be at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown from 11 a.m. until 12: 45 p.m. Father Steven Beatty and Monsignor Joseph Lawler will be officiating. Burial will be at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery near Shawneetown. Donations in Tony’s memory may be made to the Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
