Carol Joan Harrelson, 86, of Carterville, died Saturday, March 30, 2019, at her home, surrounded by her family. A Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 4, 2019, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin, with Monsignor Kenneth Schaefer officiating. Visitation from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Thursday, at the church. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Marion. Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions can be made to the Salvation Army in Marion. Carol was born on December 4, 1932, in DeWitt, Arkansas, to John R. and Mary Etta (Reidhar) McGrew. She married William "Bill" Rogers in Marion and he preceded her in death. She then married Carroll "Smokey" Harrelson and he also preceded her in death. She is survived by her sons, B.J. (Rosemary) Moore of Harrisburg, Terry Dean Moore of Carbondale, and Larry Gene (Elaine) Moore of Eddyville; daughter, Peggy Lynn (Ron) Martis of Carbondale; step-children, Carroll (Debbie) Harrelson of Ridgway, Mary Stone of Carmi and Hazel Potts of Eldorado; sisters, Bethel Rigsby of Shawneetown, Mary Jo Redick of Shawneetown, Stella (Wilson) Feazel of Ridgway, Lorene (Wilber) Harris of DeWitt, Arkansas; grandchildren, Jeff (Cheryl) Moore, Larry James (Angie) Moore, Michelle (Tad) Anglin, and Laura Martis (Jason Yoba); 10 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, William "Bill" Rogers and Carroll "Smokey" Harrelson; sister, Augustine Elizabeth Cronin; brothers-in-law, Jack Redick, Hershel Rigsby and Bob Cronin; half-brother, Wilmer Hill; half-sisters, Irene Schorscein and Abby Schorscein. Carol was a self employed beautician who also worked as a cashier. Most importantly she loved her family and was known as the sweetest woman you could ever meet. Her smile and eyes lit up the world.
