Obituary

Carmen E. Chaney, born Carmen E. McGinnis, passed away on October 4, 2026, in Evansville, Indiana. She was born on February 21, 1940, in Carbondale, Illinois.

Carmen married the love of her life William "Bill" Chaney on July 31, 1960. They spent a beautiful 55 years together until his passing in 2016.

Carmen was a retired PT Tech and receptionist. She worked at Ferrell Hospital for many years, where she gave her time and care through her work. Outside of her career, she enjoyed the simple things that brought her happiness. She loved to read and was a big fan of Elvis Presley. She enjoyed watching basketball with her son Marty, and she was an avid bingo player who enjoyed every chance to play. She also loved cardinals and hummingbirds. Carmen deeply loved and appreciated her church family, and she had a special place in her heart for her beloved dog, Bracci.

Above all else, Carmen’s proudest accomplishment was her family. She is survived by her daughter, Renee Hutchinson and her husband Kevin, and by her son, Marty and his wife, Paula. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Amber Roemmich, John Anderson, Joshua Chaney, Kristi Johnson, Autumn Romero, Eric Hutchinson, Tyanna Hutchinson, Crystal Dolden, LaTisha Thaxton, and Stephen Dolden. She also leaves behind 20 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Her family will carry forward the love, warmth, and memories she gave so freely throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her father, JR. McGinnis; her mother, Marion McGinnis; and her husband, William “Bill” Chaney.

Visitation will be held on October 7, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Vickery Funeral Chapel - Shawneetown Location, 274 W Marshall Ave, Shawneetown, Illinois 62984.
