Billy D. Head

Billy D. Head, 94, of Shawneetown, IL died Wednesday June 24, 2026 at 5:32 am at Parkway Manor is Marion, IL. Funeral services will be held Saturday June 27, 2026 at 12 Noon at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Shawneetown, IL. Visitation will be held Saturday after 10 am until service time.  Burial will be in Westwood Cemetery with military rites by the Shawneetown and Ridgway American Legions and the Army National Guard Ritual Team. Reverend Thad Galloway will officiate. Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown, IL is assisting the family.

He was born on May 9, 1932 in Shawneetown, IL to the late Albert and Sarah Elizabeth (Williams) Head Jr.

He married the former Betty Irene Phillips on November 25, 1954 and she preceded in death on February 9, 2015.

Billy worked many years as a coal miner and farmer, in which he enjoyed very much. He also loved to sing and play all types of music.

 He also served in the US Army during the Korean War, serving from 1952 thru 1954.

Billy was a member of  the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Shawneetown, IL  in which he was on the building crew that built the church.

He is survived by 3 Sons: William David (Elizabeth) Head of Shawneetown, IL; Martin Curtis (Sandy) Head of Shawneetown, IL and James Kenneth (Laura) Head of Caitlin, IL; Grandchildren: Sarah (Travis) Boots, Jennifer Head, Rebecca (Alex) Kentner, Aaron (Lydia) Head, James Stephen (Ashley) Head and Joseph Stacey; Great grandchildren: Corrie Boots, Zoe boots, Eliza Kentner, Everett Kentner, Willow Head, Waylon Head, Dawson Stacy and Avery Stacey.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Wife: Betty Irene Head; Brother Jim Head, and 3 Sisters: Wilma Ruth McDermott, Eula Mae Berlin and Sarah Elizabeth Rich and Grandson: Bryan Head.
