Alex J. Dziepak, 88, of Equality, Ill formerly of Hammond, Ind., passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 18, 2012, 4:15 a.m. He was born on February 14, 1924 in East Chicago, Ind., the son of Andrew and Polly (Krochmal) Dziepak. He married Freddia Mae Clark on November 9, 1946 and she preceded him in death on August 13, 2004. Alex served his country in the Army during World War II. He retired as a maintenance superintendent fo the Champion Commercial Industries in East Chicago, Ind. Alex was a faithful member of the St. Kateri Catholic Church - Equality Chapel. He was also a forty-nine year member of the American Legion Post #369 of East Chicago, Indiana. Alex is survived by two daughters, Nancy and Ronald Colbert of Equality, Christie Gutherie of Chesterton, Ind.; two sons, Terry and Mary Dziepak of Crown Point, Ind., Roger Dziepak of Equality; one surviving brother, Tony and Phyllis Dziepak of Schererville, Ind.; five grandchildren, Roger and Millie Dziepak, Mindi and Jared Abney, Jacqueline Dziepak, Kevin Dziepak, and Charles Christopher Gutherie; four great grandchildren, Alex Dziepak, Tommy Dziepak, Cole Abney, and Cale Abney. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; five sisters, Julia Barsic, Lillian Cheranko, Rose DeBold, Mary Fogle, and Sophie Zurawski Nesbitt; three brothers, George, Stanley, and John Dziepak. Visitation will held on Friday, December 21, 2012 from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. at the St. Kateri Catholic Church - Equality chapel. Funeral Mass will begin at 11 a.m. with Father Steven Beatty officiating. There will be a grave side service at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Calumet City, Ill. on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 12:30 p.m. with military rites by the American Legion Post #369. Memorials may be made to St. Judes Children Hospital. Condolences may be made at the website, www.vickeryfuneralchapel.com. Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality will be in charge of arrangements.
