Virginia Irene Barnett, 90, of Marion, Ill., formerly of Equality, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at the Heartland Regional Hospital in Marion.  Aunt Ginny, was born on October 19, 1928 in Equality, one of five children of the late William Andrew and Lillie Ann (Compton) Barnett.  Virginia graduated from the University of Evansville, School of Nursing, and embarked on a prestigious forty-year career at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Ind.  She retired as Nursing Director, Department of Psychiatry at the hospital.  Throughout her tenure, she was a dedicated worker who loved her job, and was devoted to her profession.  Virginia was firm believer in that everyone should have a college education.   Also, she was an avid Indy 500 fan.  She is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Rita (Louise) King and Jim White of Marion and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Freda Wathen, and two brothers, Freeman and Barney Barnett.  Celebration of her life will be held from noon until service time at 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 27th at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality. The Rev. Thad Galloway will be officiating the service with burial at the Elmwood Cemetery near Equality.  To honor Virginia, the family hopes you will do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for someone, in her name.
